In the last round of the European World Cup qualifying group match on Sunday night, the Norwegian team defeated the Italian team 4-1 away from home and entered the World Cup again after 27 years. Although unable to play due to injury, Norway's captain Odegaard still came to the scene to support the team. He was interviewed by TV2 on the sidelines.
Odegaard has participated in three European Cup qualifiers and two World Cup qualifiers in the past, but most of the time they ended in cruel disappointment. He said before the game on Sunday night: "The World Cup is one of the most important events. This is a dream I have had since I was a child. To play for the national team and compete in major competitions."
The team captain said frankly: "I have experienced a lot, experienced many heavy lows. Being eliminated in some play-offs, experienced a lot of heavy moments. So it is really happy to be where we are now."
Odegaard, who made his debut for the Norwegian national team as early as 2014, never doubted that he would be at the game on Sunday night: "I am here to support my teammates. We have worked hard for this for a long, long time. For me, it is very important to be with them."
Odegaard has been unable to play since October 4 due to knee injuries. Regarding his injury situation, he revealed: "The situation is improving. This game came a little too early... but the situation is starting to get better, so I hope to be back soon."
