Liverpool striker Diogo Jota died in a traffic accident at the age of 28. Porto president Boas traveled to Gondomar on Friday to mourn on the eve of Jota and his brother Andre Silva’s funeral.

On Friday, in Gondomar, near Porto, the atmosphere was grieving. Dozens, including agent Jorge Mendes, the Portuguese Prime Minister and the President, mourned Jota and his brothers at a wake on the eve of the funeral.

Boas revealed: "We appreciate everything he represents, both on and off the court. He was not a member before, but from today, I hope all board members can understand this decision."

"Jorta's dues have been symbolically returned to his family. These are symbolic actions that cannot erase the pain that has shrouded their loved ones at this moment."

"We previously worked with his agent Jorge Mendes to operate Jota to return to Porto from the 2026-27 season. We have discussed this possibility, and I also informed Jota at his wedding through Jorge Mendes. This is a dream that all Porto supporters hope to achieve."
