In most people's impression, more people will be injured when fighting between dogs, and not many people seem to be injured when fighting between cats, so there is little knowledge about how to deal with wounds after being injured between cats. Today, the pet doctor will share with you how our owners should deal with the injury when fighting between cats.
The degree of injury between cats is mostly caused by skin scratches, because their main weapon for fighting is fingernails. Compared with dogs, there are fewer penetration injuries biting with their mouths and deeper cavity wounds, so let's talk about the treatment method based on the wounds in cats fighting.
After the cat fights: (Find the wound)
After the cat fights, the pet owner must carefully look at the cat's skin carefully, whether there are redness and blood stains, especially in the messy and wet areas, to see if there are any injuries. Because after the cat is injured in the fight, the wound is relatively shallow and there is less bleeding, and it is covered with hair. It is difficult to find it if we don't look carefully and don't pull the hair away, so the owner must be careful. (If the owner does not find it, then the small wound will become purulent, which requires more complicated operation.)
Preparation tools:
Volcano
Fasher
Cotton swab
Physalt
Erythromycin ointment/Pet with trauma cream/anti-inflammatory ointment, Elizabeth circle
The first step to treat wounds: (Shaving)
First of all, we should clean the hair near the wound, use a shave, or the fader used by pets. If the wound is just a very shallow scratch, then this is not needed, because it affects the appearance. We only need to pull the hair apart when applying medicine, but when the wound is deep and larger, we must shave it!
The second step to treat wounds: (clear the wound)
After shaving, we dip a cotton swab in normal saline and scrub the wound. Generally, we require more than 2 times. If it is a deep penetration injury or cavity wound, it is recommended to rinse it with a syringe, which is better than scrubbing with a cotton swab.
Then use iodine volt to scrub and disinfect it again. Because alcohol is more irritating, it is painful and cool to use on the wound. Cats generally do not cooperate, so it is best to use iodine volt.
The third step to treat wounds: (Sewing/Putting Medicine)
Ordinary wounds:
We apply ointment on cotton swabs and apply evenly on the wounds. Apply 2-3 times a day, without too much. If the external medicine is water-based, then spray it on the wounds.
The deeper penetration wounds:
It is recommended to take the cat to the pet hospital for trauma treatment. Decide whether to suture or apply medicine based on the severity of the wounds.
If there is no way to take the cat to the pet hospital, the owner needs to squeeze the trauma ointment into the wound, twice a day. This kind of wound usually has secretions, so it needs to be rinsed with saline a few days before applying medicine.
Notes:
When applying medicine a few days ago, the wound had a scab, so it must be poked open and not allowed to last. Although the scab heals a little, the wound has not healed. If the scab is kept, the secretions in the wound cannot be released, and later the wound will become purulent, causing large-scale ulceration.
This wound heals from the inside to the outside, and the wound on the skin is the final healing, so 3-5 days after the cat is injured, it must not let its skin crust. In addition, this wound does not need to be bandaged!
Care:
Put Elizabeth rings for cats and prevent them from licking their wounds. If they are two cats, they need to be placed in a cage to prevent them from helping each other licking their wounds, and at the same time, they can avoid them from continuing to fight and getting injured.
If the cat has a deep and large wound, then when applying external medicine, it is necessary to give it some anti-inflammatory medicine.
What else should the owner pay attention to when fighting between cats?
The most susceptible thing to be injured between cats is the cat's ears. You can take a look at stray cats. Many cats have gaps or tear in their ears, and fighting between cats will cause ear hematoma, which requires surgical treatment.
When a cat fight, the owner should not pull it with his hands, otherwise you will be injured. The owner should use a loud voice such as a roar or other soft objects, such as clothes, to stop them from continuing to fight.
